Blasé Tuesday

Blasé Tuesday. Pen and ink. Originally published in the Daily Pennsylvanian on September 27, 2007.

I’ve said a lot about this topic here already.

To be fair to the school, alums who graduated a decade ago frequently told me to that I didn’t know how good we had it. (“Back when I was there, you could hear bullets flying around the area!”)

Before I was graduated, someone also told me that if you looked at a heat map of crime in the West Philly area, Penn was like a little bubble, relatively untouched by major incidents. Supposedly parents from the community left their kids on our campus to play during the day while they were at work, since they knew it was safer than anywhere else in the surrounding neighborhoods.

So yes, things were getting better, and a lot of the other daily incidents were just part of living on an urban campus. Still, I look forward to the day we’ll be wiped off any “Most Dangerous” rankings completely…

(Note: I lost my fine-tipped pens the night before my deadline, so this is one of the most “blobby” drawings. Important lesson for the future — keep back-ups!)

This is a scan of the drawing as it appeared in the DP. More about my stint at the DP here.
